A pure opioid receptor antagonist used as a critical antidote to quickly and completely reverse the effects of opioid overdose (heroin, morphine, fentanyl). It rapidly displaces opioid agonists from the receptor sites, reversing respiratory depression and sedation. It is also used to diagnose opioid dependence.
