Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API)
Sacubitril
Neprilysin Inhibitor (Heart Failure)
A prodrug that forms the active metabolite Sacubitrilat, which inhibits the enzyme Neprilysin (neutral endopeptidase). Neprilysin degrades natriuretic peptides ($\text{BNP}$, $\text{ANP}$), which are beneficial in heart failure. It is always combined with Valsartan in an ARNI (Angiotensin Receptor-Neprilysin Inhibitor) to treat chronic heart failure.
